Anyone excited for this game? I have not played any of the games in the series but this one has really grabbed my attention.
Assassin's Creed 3 - Reveal Trailer [UK] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCZ2l1BbWyY#ws)
Interesting twist by including the Revolutionary War. I've never played any of these games either, but I know there's some twist that allows the character to go to different times.
I hate when they don't have demos for popular games. I was hoping to try out one of the earlier games in the series and there are no demos available on the Xbox Marketplace.
I have always had some interest in the series but never really cared for the locations. From talking to people the first one is really boring an many think that AC2 is the best in the series. They are selling it on the Games on Demand for $19.99. That said I just could never pull the trigger. I am pretty sure there will be a demo for AC3 since they have doubled the dev time and team for this game. They are making it for both people who played the series and creating a jumping on point for those new to it.
Gotta kill me some redcoats.
Jason, Steam has the first one for $5 during sales pretty regular. I think I got the second one for 7.50 or 10. You need to rock the PC.
Brent, I agree this to me is the most interesting setting of them all.
Yeah the setting is really good. Not a lot of British people thrilled by it as it does have slightly resemble a cross between The Patriot and Last of the Mohicans. ;D
Here is some more stuff I forgot to post on the game.
Some spoilers as far far as the story is concerned but nothing you won't find eventually as previews for the game come out.
-Want it to be a jumping on point for new players without losing touch with what longtime fans cherish most.
-New hero called Connor/Ratohnhake:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo). He has an English father and Native American mother.
-More details about the protagonist/scenarios: You will experience Conner's childhood on the American frontier as he is raised by the Mohawk. The Mohawk eventually clash with white colonists who burn their village down, causing Connor to dedicate his life to confront tyranny and injustice.
-A new traversal approach that has players leaping and climbing trees and mountain cliffs.
-Uses a new version of the Anvil engine that can "depict thousands of troops engaged in bloody battle" along with highly detailed face close-ups. They later imply that if they used version numbers, they would be like going from Anvil 1.0 -> Anvil 2.0 or something of that nature.
-Judging by the images, the faces really are quite good.
-Combat is focused on putting you on the offensive and based on speed/momentum.
-The main character has thousands of new and unique animations (no carry over from other titles) to support the new combat system.
-Character details:
-George Washington: Interacting with Washington is one of the core relationships of the game.
-Benjamin Franklin: He's not a convenient inventor a la Da Vinci.
-Charles Lee: His role is a mystery.
-The game is set between the years 1753-1783 and is centered around the cities of Boston and New York.
-"It's not just going to a historical building now; it's going to a historical event."
-Event examples: "You will see the great fire of New York. You will visit Valley Forge as a location that is currently occupied by Washington's forces. You will visit these places in the moment that they were important, and hopefully, experience the reason why we know where they are today. That's the goal."
-Connor is in the heart of major battles, and they can now have a couple thousand guys on screen, whereas before it was capped at about 100.
-The overall story is still centered around the Assassins versus the Templars and Connor's journey.
-Not all the Colonists will be cast as good people, and not all the British will be cast as evil oppressors. They're trying to focus on how both the Assassins and Templars viewpoints exist in a gray morality as the Templars really believe they're saving the world.
-The French and Native Americans will also feature in the game, as was probably really obvious.
-The modern day stuff relates to that location in New York at the end of Revelations.
-There will be all sorts of wilderness in the game referred to as the Frontier.
-The map of the Frontier is 1.5 times bigger than the entire map of Brotherhood.
-The Frontier is not empty like in Assassin's Creed 1, but features a third of the game's missions and gameplay content.
-The Frontier also includes colonial settlements like Lexington and Concord and Connor's Mohawk village.
-You can hunt animals for resources, and how you kill them effects your reward. A one hit kill on a bear gets you a much more valuable pelt than stabbing it eight times.
-The wilderness traversal plays a big part in the gameplay in the Frontier, allowing you to use trees, cliffs, ledges, and more to set up kills and combat.
-Connor does have a hidden blade.
-The world changes as time passes, so a field where a battle happened in one year may just be a series of empty encampments a few months later.
-The entire world will change with seasons, so the cities and the wilderness will all exist in both Summer and Winter settings.
-In the winter, soldiers will move slowly and stumble about in the snow, and lakes and rivers will freeze over allowing you new terrain to work with. This gives Connor an extra advantage since he can still use the trees and wilderness pretty effectively during this time of year.
-There are all sorts of clubs and groups who want you to join and give you quests. These are separate from the mission system. These clubs will contact you based on what you do in the game. For example, hunting a lot will get you an invitation to the hunting society.
-There will be a goods based economy, a new property system, and more Desmond stuff.
-There's going to be some new puzzle thing like the first person Tetris.
-There's a new GUI known as Animus 3.0.
-There's a new Animus database written by Shaun Hastings, who makes snarky comments about the British perspective of the war.
-They're not unveiling anything about the multiplayer yet.
-There will be more platforming levels.
-Full synchronization returns, but with major tweaks. Missions have checkpoints, You also get significant rewards for doing these tasks instead of a 100%. "Imagine a leveling system in an RPG, except there's a finite amount of XP to find. The more in-sync you get, the more you fill your sync bar. Within each mission, each activity you complete has a value". You can replay everything to increase your score.
-They imply there is something resembling the Brotherhood system of picking up fellow assassins.
-Aligned groups are gone, but something new is replacing them in regards to factions. They don't say what.
-There's a new notoriety system that is more hidden and doesn't penalize you for exploring risky areas.
-The game has fast travel because the game has more traveling.
-Don't expect more tower defense.
-You can upgrade Connor's gear and costume as the game goes on in an attempt to make it feel more authentic.
-The cities have a lot more subtle detail now in terms of ambient things that happen.
-You can now leap over wagons or slide under obstacles, including navigating over and around moving objects. The free running stuff also has you jumping through windows to trees and then on top of church roofs. Basically, expect the free running stuff, but more fluid and presumably generally closer to the ground.
-Connor enters battle with two weapons. The game uses the same controls in and out of battle.
-The tomahawk and knife are a "constant presence" in battle. They also let you do double counters and multiple takedowns, and you can chain kills.
-There's no more target locking, it just automatically detects your target. Counter/defense are the same button to prevent turtling.
-You can use human shields and other context sensitive moves.
-They want you to constantly move in battle.
-There are lots of secondary attacks like the one shot pistol on the Y button.
-There's a new dynamic camera to track the action and make it look as cinematic as possible.
-There is a new sprinting system also, so you can hold the button to instantly turn around and start fleeing from combat. They also let you kill people while still moving so you can keep chasing a target. They kind of imply you can even leap off of them after you kill them, though I'm not sure if that makes you faster or just doesn't impede your movement.
-They really, really, really want you to constantly move. I mean like they say this every four sentences. Not just in battle, but in every section of the game.
-They also try to keep you more in control of the combat than ever before.
-Game Informer really loves their animation system.
-There are around 2.5 hours of character scenes in the game that are fully acted and recorded. They mean this in Naughty Dog style where they have the actors being mocaped while performing on a set that resembles the scene in the game.
-They're aiming for accuracy by having historical dialog consultants and actual Native American actors.
-This game has the longest development cycle since AC1, and has twice the production capacity (in terms of work hours) and budget of Revelations.
-They want the game to feel like AC3.5, and the game will have its first version complete in just a few more weeks, at which point they're going to spend the rest of their time refining it.

So I'm assuming you played them then. Did you like them?
I played the first one Gamefly for 360 and then when it was on Steam for 5 bucks I picked it up and revisited. I still haven't even installed number 2. I have a habit of just seeing the low price, figuring it's not much more than a rental and purchasing it knowing I will eventually get to it.
To answer your question. I like #1 enough to play it every so often and advance the story a little bit. It never grabs me so hard I play it for two nights in a row, but I like visiting the world for an hour or so. I don't know if I would pay 20 for either of them, but at 5 or 10...definitely.
Now that we are talking about #3 I will probably push myself in #1 to start getting through the stories to be ready when #3 goes on sale.
I love the screen of the harbor.
PAX East is going on right now and someone snagged a gameplay pic.

Brent, have you picked up one of the earlier games yet? I have the first one sitting in my shopping cart at Amazon that I'm just waiting to pull the trigger on.
Nope, I have AC3 preordered and just plan on starting with this game. I am going through a ton of games right now, just finished Uncharted 2 & 3 and halfway though Heavy Rain. Still have plenty of Skyrim to do and a couple other games. Trials Evolution hits next week and that will probably consume my whole summer. I would highly recommend picking that up next week instead as we can chase after each others times.
While I am excited for the game, Ubisoft can kiss my fat ass.

4-player co-op just moved this one up on my purchase list.
I am super weak. Said I would not do it but in anticipation of AC3 I bought AC1, AC2, AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations.
You're a rock ;)
So glad we live in an internet age. Assassin's Creed 1 is just not all the enjoyable, repetitive and I stopped about half way through. Just read up on the ending of the first and move on to greener pastures. Fortunately I knew in advance that 2 was superior to it in every way and so far I agree with that assessment.
Are you still playing part 2? If so, how is it?
I played a bit more and still liking it but putting it and the others on hold until I get Assassins Creed 3 and finish it.
And in true form, while I am still getting AC3 on Tuesday, I am going to play through the 2, BH and Rev first. I just have a feeling if I go start playing AC3 I might not want to go backwards as far as you abilities, etc are concerned. AC 2 made a big jump over the original so I am going to play though each one in order.
My son is buying a copy of this tomorrow with his birthday money, so I'll have to borrow it from him soon.
I finally decided to skip the first Assassin's Creed after reading how much better the second one is and ordered a copy from Amazon tonight. Maybe AC 2 can help put an end to my gaming rut.
I enjoyed 2 to a point but then 3 came out and was a big letdown. Not a fan of the combat/shooting and even though I got past the boring first 5 or 6 hours but it just never clicked.
I meant to ask your opinions on AC3. Seem to be in line with most I've read at SA or NeoGaf.
It was rushed and many of the things that made AC2 enjoyable were removed from AC3. I do feel bad that I never got far enough to play in the scenes where you control your own ship, from everything I have read that was the best part of the game.
In typical Brent form, I am going to give AC3 a second chance. Forgot I paid for the season pass and hate to waste that, will just have to live with the combat system. I need a snowy game in my library since I finally sold Skyrim today and traded it in for Tropico 4 Gold edition.. Always wanted to try it and now I have a FPS in Far Cry a tactics/building game in Tropico and AC3,
Speaking of Skyrim, I hate to miss out on the final two DLC but I just put to many hours into the game and the combat system just got really stale (for the last couple hundred hours) :)
I feel I ended the game on the proper note with my LVL 81 character fighting the Ebony Warrior, who is far and away the toughest battle in the game (only available if you max out to 81) which I did using the Oghma Infinium cheat. The game was also getting too weird for my taste. I loved the Dragonborn DLC outside of having to travel around Hermaeus Mora's little world and the Soul Carin in Dawnguard was just as annoying as Blackreach.
You will have Skyrim back before too long.

You will have Skyrim back before too long.
I was thinking the same thing myself.
Not a chance, I deleted my game saves. Skyrim is no more. I eagerly wait for Elder Scrolls VI.
I picked up my copy of AC 2 back in December and still haven't even tried it yet. I got as far as installing it to my hard drive.
AC3 $12 on Steam
Have put about 13 hours into this and it very much draws me in. I like wandering around colonial New England and causing some mayhem, but also just checking out the buildings and how things look. The sandbox part of the game has me so engrossed I'm thinking of buying AC4 on release and paying full price. Blasphemy!
All the reviews I've read have said that AC4 is much better than AC3.

Be strong. Full price=for suckers :))
Real late to the party, but I'm starting in on this one. Also playing some AC4 on PS4.
Man, I am not Mr. Single Player Adventure Guy, but I just love these AC games. The graphics, story and immersion are great and the puzzles, challenges and missions are very doable for a Dumb-Tard such as myself. Underrated multi-player, too.
Have you played Unity yet? It looks amazing from what I've seen.
Waiting for it to get less buggy. I'll play Rogue before that, though. Once I finish these other two.
I just took my son's copy of AC3 to try out. I wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay mechanics in AC2, but I'm willing to give this one a try.
I think you'll like it...pretty intuitive controls.
You're a bad influence...I just bought AC IV for the 360 while on sale at Amazon for $15.
Black Flag is even better than 3. Sailing around the Carribbean is easily worth $15.
Unity is now on sale for $29.99 at Amazon. It seems like all the major issues have been fixed so I'm on the fence with this one.
Unity is on sale from Gamefly(used) for $12.99, free shipping.

I bought it from Amazon back in March for $19.99 but haven't played it yet. You thinking of buying it?
Yeah, man, I pulled the trigger at that price.
Lol, grabbed AC:Rogue for $13. Think I've got 'em all, now.
I've been considering Black Flag on the PS4 since it's on sale for $15 in the Playstation store this week.
It sure is purty on PS4. Don't snooze on Freedom Cry if it's on sale, either.

I have it on XB360 and was watching comparison videos to see the difference. While the PS4 was definitely better looking, it wasn't like it blew away the XB360 version. I would prefer playing on the PS4 though and I like that it's the digital version.
I'm about 3 hours into Black Flag (yes, I caved and bought the PS4 version) and really like it so far. This is actually the furthest I gotten in an Assassin's Creed game and now that I'm invested in the story, I can't see myself not finishing it. I even went ahead and installed the add-on app on my tablet.
I still need to get better at fighting since I'm so used to the fighting style in the Arkham series, but the counter/parry system is similar enough between both games. I also have to remind myself to use stealth more as taking on a group of enemies in this game usually doesn't end well, but I'm having fun learning.
The naval battles are worth the price of admission.
Just made it Nassau and started assembling my crew...
