On top of the $60 game purchase.

One thing wrong with the article is that it states that 360 owners pay 9.95 per month for Live.

Better analysis here;http://kotaku.com/5806775/how-call-of-duty-elite-works-and-why-you-might-be-paying-for-it (http://kotaku.com/5806775/how-call-of-duty-elite-works-and-why-you-might-be-paying-for-it) and here;  http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/05/call-of-duty-elite/ (http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/05/call-of-duty-elite/)

Definitely more like Bungie.net than WoW. Cross platform stat-tracking and social media tie-in. The carrot will be including the map packs into the price and maybe some weapon/camo sugar too.

Pay to play in some is definitely coming at some point to all successful online franchises, along with even more monetization and DLC.
EA and Activision will lead the way.

I did sign up for the closed Beta, though :-[
