Title: PS5/'Xbox Series X game previews
Post by: BDSooner72 on May 07, 2020 @ 03:18:41 PM
From an event today

https://www.ign.com/articles/xbox-series-x-every-new-game (https://www.ign.com/articles/xbox-series-x-every-new-game)

Bright Memory looked really good, especially for a game that is being developed by one person.
Madden 21 got 2 seconds of next gen footage with no gameplay. They left all the gameplay for the previous versions.  ::)
Second Extinction was another FPS with an interesting take of killing Dinosaurs.
The Medium looks interesting and Dirt 5 looks really purdy, though I dislike racing game. Also noticed Dirt 5 will be 4K/60fps with a 120fps option. This is what every developer should stick to. Goodbye 30FPS! Well I am sure Bethesda and a few other devs will find a way bring it back to 30fps. They can't even get a solid 30fps on 1800p games right now.

A few days ago there was this.

Nothing really blew me away. I guess all the talk about the powerful hardware used in the next-gen systems had me expecting more. The generational leaps seem to get smaller each time.

Microsoft is not messing around with backwards compatibility with the Series X: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/05/28/xbox-series-x-next-generation-backward-compatibility/

Not surprising given what all they have done this gen for backwards compatibility. It's pretty much been their thing, along with game pass.  Now if they could start getting out more quality first party games. They have had a couple real solid releases this year with Ori and now Minecraft Dungeons is really damn good. I absolutely hate the combat in Minecraft but it works well in Dungeons.

I think Microsoft is doing a great job with the upcoming generation so far. They're not making the mistake of launching with the weaker console this time and I really like the look of the system. Game Pass and free upgrades to next-gen titles when you but the current-get version are nice too.

Sony's exclusives and hopefully full PS4 compatibility are the only things making me lean towards the PS5, but we'll see what Sony shows on Friday.

I'm confident the PS4 back compat will be pretty thorough. I'm equally confident my PS3s will remain hooked up until 2025.

Sony's PS5 event was moved to this Thursday at 1pm PDT/4pm EDT. Glad they didn't delay it longer.

Wow, that was disappointing to say the least. The games and hardware were not impressive at all.

But you get a PS3 game for free for buying a PS5.  ;D  I am interested in more on Horizon 2. Even the Sony Zealots at Resetera came away unimpressed with the showing.

I don't mind how the all-digital versions looks, but the disc-based system looks horrible. It's almost as if Sony was planning on making the PS5 disc-less and then chickened out at the last minute and added a drive onto it.

I'm curious to see the difference in price between the two. There's speculation that the disc-less system may come with an larger SSD. I have no interest in 4K movies and have never even put a game or movie disc in my PS4 slim, which I got 1.5 years ago, so I may consider the disc-less system.

If this is legit, I'm all over the digital version. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200613/422cdd86880f3feb2960d90da645d74c.jpg)

I might just wait for Sony and MS to announce the prices.

I don't think it's legit. Sony already confirmed that the only difference between the two versions is the disc drive. I'm just saying, that would be tough to pass up if true.

Looks like next gen is bringing us next gen pricing. NBA 2K21 will be $69.99 for the standard PS5/XSX version.  I could understand this about games not littered with micro-transactions, costs go up but a game like this or Madden. Nah.

My thoughts exactly. NBA 2K21 is not the best choice to test this new price point.

I've paid more for Genesis games back in the day (Street Fighter 2), but they were complete games that didn't charge extra for DLC.

I know game development is much more expensive now, but companies make up a lot of that with season passes, deluxe editions and all the other DLC. There's also a much bigger market to sell to.

I almost always wait for sales anyway, so this won't affect me as much anyway.

Looks really nice, NBA 2K never fails to impress on console launches.

First thing I noticed with the gameplay was that the players were not sliding all over the court. I guess they finally figured out proper foot planting.

I keep leaning more and more towards the Xbox Series X. I know it's not important, but I can't stand the look and form factor of the PS5 and can really see myself holding off until they release a slim model.

It was pretty much a given for me with gamepass and the better controller for my hands. Did you read the review?  At least the end of it?  ^-^

My enormous backlog will move right over to PS5 when I can find one.

Me too.  That asshole should quit “doomscrolling” and go tell all those “evil” medical personnel at their “evil” health care institutions how “evil” they are.  Guy needs a punch in the face. And he really needs to keep that shit out of his reviews.

I can start a new backlog on a new platform. In all seriousness, I'll have to break my long-time rule and get two consoles next generation. I'll need a PS5 to carry over my enormous backlog too, along with their first party games that my son and I enjoy (Spider-man, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Last of Us), and I'll get an Xbox Series X for Game Pass and all the Xbox One backwards compatibles games I missed this generation (mainly Forza and Gears).

I am going to try my hardest to hold off until Sony releases a PS5 slim. I think Microsoft did a much better job with their new console and controller.

Doomscrolling? Is that when a teen is surfing for porn with their parents in the next room?

Cyberpunk gameplay footage on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X.  Rooms seem empty, a lack of pedestrians around the city (Covid still around in 2077?) and gunplay that is not impressive. Still getting it but less impressed with this footage.

The city looked amazing in the driving scenes, but you're right, it looked very empty, especially if you compare it to NYC in Spider-man. It did seem more "alive" when walking around outside later on in the video. I'm still disappointed it's first person only.

That looks like current gen footage. Pause on the sidelines. LOL! Little has changed. Still no refs on the field.  ???
