Title: MLB 15: The Show
Post by: BDSooner72 on December 08, 2014 @ 09:05:00 AM
From Gamestop

A few more tidbits from Gamestop page.

The 10th edition of the franchise, MLB 15 The Show is a more immersive and exciting baseball experience than ever before with substantial improvements to both gameplay and graphics. New features include:

Licensed Equipment - For the first time ever, partnerships from various brands will bring accurate bats, gloves, cleats, and batting gloves to the game.
Year-to-Year Saves - Users who purchased MLB 14 The Show will be able to continue their Franchise and Road to the Show progress in MLB 15 The Show. Saves between the two releases will be forward-compatible, meaning you never have to worry about starting your Franchise or Road to the Show seasons over!
Universal Rewards - Simply playing the game earns Stubs that can be spent on licensed equipment, Road to The Show improvements, and virtual baseball cards.
Legends - We're introducing 30 Iconic MLB Alumni into our virtual player card pool, 1 representative for each team. These players span every historic baseball era of the last 70 years. Like all of our Universal Rewards, you have a chance of finding a historic virtual player card to add to your collection and utilize throughout MLB 15 The Show.
Major Graphical Improvements - Visually, the introduction of real time seasonal sun and shadows, revamped night lighting, and enhanced player personality help make MLB 15 The Show the most authentic baseball experience yet. (PS4 Only)

And that's just the beginning. A new Radio Show, Directional hitting, improved load times, and a completely overhauled Diamond Dynasty mode help MLB 15 The Show prove that Baseball Is Better.

Hasn't it always had directional hitting?

Yeah, I have no clue what they are saying. My only guess is the ability to move your batter around in the box and open/close your stance?  We shall soon find out.

I think there's a catch-22 with the Vita version being only $20. Of course I'm happy they're selling it for half of what is usually sells for, but I think Sony is doing that because they know it's going to be nothing more than a roster update.

There’s one from each team, and though you’ll have to find or unlock the card to slot them into your Dynasty squad, you can simply opt in to utilizing the whole pool of Legends in your Franchise mode.
“Inside The Show” News Suite

(PS4, partial PS3)

Franchise, RTTS, and Season modes all feature a new suite of features centered on providing news updates from around the league. Inside The Show is a new radio broadcast that will be heard at the beginning of each new day and will discuss recent scores, notable performances, team news, milestones, records, standings, and more. In addition, the new League Updates panel, found in season based modes, gives the user a quick snapshot of updates from around the League so you don’t have to dig through multiple screens to get the basics.

As you can see, our goal this year was to build off the solid foundation of MLB 14 and expand on the game we love to make MLB 15 The Show the best baseball game ever made.

Nice. I think all of the small improvements will add up to a nice upgrade. I probably give the new analog-swing system a try when it comes out. Looking forward to some actual gameplay next week.

I never thought I'd be able to go back to buttons after moving to full analog controls with the MLB 2K series but apparently I was wrong. I have no problem enjoying The Show (Vita and PS4) using the button controls for fielding, pitching and batting.

The directional hitting thing makes sense. It is basically guess the location to influence where you want to hit it. Miss that are and your chances for a hit drop dramatically.

It's a subtle addition but I was most impressed with the reactions of the fielders even when they weren't immediately involved in the play. Check out the video at 27:45 to see what I'm talking about. The third baseman's reaction was so much more realistic than anything in any other baseball game.

Yeah, but you lose access to the vault for rosters and players. I'm never getting rid of '14 until '15 has as many great historic sets.
Of course, '15 is a very incremental upgrade anyway;http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2015-03-20/examining-the-most-anticipated-features-for-mlb-15-the-show (http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2015-03-20/examining-the-most-anticipated-features-for-mlb-15-the-show)

Just uploaded some gameplay to YouTube. I wanted to trim the video because the only exciting part is the diving play Stephen Drew made at second base along with throwing out the runner at first (around 14:25). I was never able to do that in previous versions.

Just started my franchise and my Pirates swept the Reds, so we are off to a 3-0 start. Two fairly low scoring extra inning games and one that was a 15-13 slug-fest.  Really digging the game once I went into the options and got everything set just right. Once I switched back to the laser looking red/blue pitch break mechanic and turned the rumble off, pitching became much much more enjoyable.  They used to have an option for the pitch break (beginning of break or where it will end up). I prefer to locate my pitch where it ends up. For the life of me I could not use the classic break (little yellow arrows) and the rumble was driving me nuts trying figure out where the heck to start my pitch. Did not help that I switched to metered pitching, which I have not used in forever and was throwing the ball all over the place. Getting the hang of the meter and call me crazy but I really prefer pitching out with runners on. Far easier to control a pitch from the stretch.  ;D

I've held off on my comments about The Show so far. I think there are certainly some nice improvements like the new lighting and more responsive fielding, but there are still quite a few things that need to be fixed liked the homerun bug where if you hit a homerun with a runner on first it only counts as one run.

They also need to clean up the pitching interface. I always play with no strike zone and the location, speed and ball/strike would appear after every pitch for a second. This year you have to turn on batting info to see some similar. Also, I let me catcher call the pitches and R2 is used to see the pitch location again in cased you missed it the first time. R2 does that again this year, but it also displays the previous pitch spots over it making it very hard to see.

Finally, they still need to improve the frame rate in cutscenes. I'm also seeing big frame rate drops at least once an at-bat whether I'm pitching or batting. I haven't seen many other people mention this, so I hope the devs do know it's an issue. I have posted it to their bug report threads but it's hard to see in the uploaded video since they're so compressed.

A patch is supposedly being finalized so hopefully a lot of the little issues are fixed with it. This is actually the first PS4 game I purchased on release-day and paid full price for and I must admit I may not do it again anytime soon. It was nice being a late buyer for all of my other games since they were they much cheaper and the major patches were all released for them.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that they removed fouls balls going into the crowd. This was a huge disappointment for those of us who like the full broadcast presentation. A lot of other people have complained about this so hopefully it's patched back in.

Yes, one's that may be playable are shown. Also ground balls along the wall where the fans reach over the grab them. It's a nice touch and shouldn't be limited to those few occasions.

It also took me a while to adjust to the way the ball comes off the bat when using the medium camera. At first I didn't like it but I'm warming up to it now.

As much as I am enjoying the game, they have to work on the commentary next year.  It has been a sore spot for so many years that one would have expected major changes by now.

Tried Diamond Dynasty and like every other "card game" I stopped after the first game. The uniform creator was pretty kick ass, as I made some sweet OU baseball unis, but that was about it.  Guess I will never understand the love for these modes. A bunch of random players, on a random team, playing in a random stadium.  Spend tons of money to create superstar team to win online.

I did switch my franchise to the Mariners, as was the case last year but with the plan of actually completing a season. Won the opener on a walk-off HR in the 10th.

How often during an average game does a catcher drop a called third strike?  Between me and the CPU it seems like 5 to 10 times a game this happens.  It is almost as annoying as face-offs in hockey.  Looked for a slider and one does not exist but it sure feels like it should.

It does NOT happen in the real game nearly as much as in The Show. BYW, you're not the only one to complain about this. What usually happens when the catcher drops a called third strike is that the batter doesn't even notice or care so the catcher usually just tags the batter who is usually strolling back to the dugout.

Seems like it's been in the game for a few years now. Surprised it still hasn't been fixed.

They need to fix the Rodgers Center. Roof never closes, yet you can't adjust the game setting (clear/cloudy/etc).  Need some variety so I am just going to bear down and play with the Rangers.  Did start a new RTTS as a pitcher and joined the Pirates organization.

Between this game and Super Mega Baseball, I have not played this much baseball since the NES and the Genesis.
