Not much of a feature list, but I was pretty satisfied with what 2K11 had already. Hopefully they improve the graphics and gameplay while not introducing too many new bugs. If they do that only, I'd be happy.

Well I hope it plays well because it will probably be the last MLB game from 2ksports. EA is just chomping at the bit to get back into the MLB console game.

Pulse Pitching is a cheap imitation of MLB 2K's analog pitching.

I played the hell out of The Show 2012 and I don't think it's much better on the field.  And I thought really really sucked in franchise mode compared to 2k and 2k is just a tad above stinky.

I realize that it all comes down to preference, but the way people beam about The Show is akin to "drinkin' the Koolaid" to me.  I just don't see it.  The two games are pretty much on par with both having their own strengths and weaknesses.

The only area I thought 2K was better last year was in the announcing and they do a damn fine job there.  Of course my copy of MLB The Show 2012 is still pre-ordered, so unlike yourself, "who has played the hell out of it" my impressions are limited to a few videos.

P.S. Always hated the term "drinking the Koolaid."  They drank Flavor Aid at Jonestown but what the heck, I enjoy The Show so I wrote down to pick up some Koolaid on the grocery list.  ::)

Excuse the typo.  2011 then.

While we are nitpicking do you mind keeping The Show PR bullshit out of the 2k thread?  I've always hated it when people hijack threads with their preferred game.

2K just released their typical, non-gameplay trailer:

I'm really thinking of skipping this year.  I found a major problem with the batting in 2k11 that forced me to use a house rule or go back to 2k10.  Besides the league is going to change in 2013 so unless they allow for custom leagues in this version it will make long term franchises kind of moot.

Post by: Jason on February 09, 2012 @ 10:29:13 PM
I'd like to say that I'm going to skip this year's game because there was nothing that bothered me in 2K11, but I know I'll cave in and buy it. I'll justify the purchase because I'll be able to apply my $10 credit from Grand Slam Tennis and also get another $10 credit from buying MLB 2k12.

Ted, have you considered the new combo-pack of MLB 2K12 and NBA 2K12 (http://www.amazon.com/MLB-2K12-Combo-Pack-Xbox-360/dp/B0074ZXLH8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328844516&sr=8-1) for $69.99? That's a nice deal if you don't already own NBA 2K12.

You know that is a nice deal.  The thing is I play 2k baseball on my PC now and not on the console.  Steam sells both baseball and basketball and at full price it's cheaper than that deal although baseball usually is only available a couple of months after the console and boxed PC release.  Then within a few months they both go on sale for less than 20 bucks.  I'm just afraid I would only play 5 games of basketball because I just don't get into that game very much.

I remembered you played mostly on the PC right after I posted that.

I just pre-ordered my copy. The more I played the demo, the more impressed I became. It's not a huge leap from 2K11, but I didn't think it needed to be.

From OS

Just got my April issue in the mail and they have a nice little review, giving 2K12 an 8.0

Here's the summary:
+ Strong fundamentals in all core aspects of the game
+ Numerous tweaks make for more pleasing extended play
- Still needs visual work and fewer fielding flubs
? Will MLB 2K remain the 360's only baseball game next season?

You do kind of have to look the other way with 2K baseballs' weird animations and faces.

Last year's game wasn't well received and I loved it, so I'm not too worried about all the 2k12 reviews this year. I understand there's always room for improvement in any game, but I also understand that they're video games and not reality.

Enjoyed my first 3 games with 2K12. There was 3mb update available today that supposedly fixed some framerate issues. I didn't play the retail game before the patch was released, so I can't say for sure. What I can say is that the framerate issues in demo are almost non-existent in the retail game. Changing the fielding camera from "Dynamic" to "Middle" got rid of some of the remaining hiccups too.

Fielding is also much better in retail game. In the demo, it felt like the infielders took too long to gather up the ball and then threw a bullet for the out. Everything seems much more fluid and better-paced in the retail game. Even the outfielders hustle to the ball, unlike the demo where they'd trot to the ball and then make a last-second catch.

I'm definitely seeing much better hit variety than any other MLB 2K game and possibly any baseball video game. The hit variety was one of the reasons I decided to buy this year's game and so far it hasn't disappointed. It's also nice not hitting a soft-liner out at least once an inning. Timing also seems to really factor into where and how the hard the ball goes - much more so than previous years.

Most of the comments talk about MLB 2K not being a pretty game, but I think this year's game looks very good. Maybe it's because I've never played "The Show" on PS3, but I don't have any issue with the graphics and actually think the stadiums look exceptionally good this year. The additional animations also help the look of the game.

I wasn't blown away by the demo and almost considered skipping 2K12, but now I'm glad I didn't.

It showed up on Steam yesterday which was a surprise since 11 took months to show up.  But in answer to your question I think you probably are.

Hi Jason,

I picked it up yesterday after fooling around with a Redbox rental for a couple of days.

I do enjoy the Show more, but I liked the 2k offering enough to grab it as well.  I'm way down on the number of sports titles and full priced games I am buying lately, but I'm still enough of a baseball nut to own both titles! :)

Neither game has the pitching I want, still, but I find 2k12's system to be more engaging.  I'm not at a point where I want to be with sliders, yet, but I've been pretty happy with what I was able to tweak out of previous games in the series, so I'm not too concerned yet.

I will say I'm not looking forward to playing with Kuroda's slow-ass delivery every 5 games!

Ha. I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't stand that either.

Michael Pineda is a stud in this game and thankfully so, because I can't seem to score more than 2 runs a game.

BTW, the more I play this year's game, the more improvements I see over last year's game. I'm really loving the hit variety and I'm seeing a lot of realistic errors and bobbles made in the field. That alone makes the game seem so much more realistic. The pitcher/batter duels are much better this year too with all of the fouled-off pitches. I find myself (both batting and pitching) going deep into the count on many at-bats.

You'll get plenty of offense from Montero - just not much defense.

Yeah, the Mariner blogs all seem to know that going in.  I think he's the short term solution at catcher and their long term hope at DH.

I'm glad they worked on the base running, but I wished they worked on eliminating the occasional stuttering during gameplay.

Demo was released for the Xbox 360 today. The base running has been improved, but there's still that half-a-second stutter before the outfielders get to the ball on certain plays/
