Title: Forza 4
Post by: Jason on September 13, 2011 @ 11:11:30 AM
I just placed my order for Forza 4 at Amazon.com. With my gift card trade-in balance and $10 promotional credit from NHL 12, it only cost me $24. I can't wait to get my hands on this game next month.

The Forza demo was released a day early...it's out now.

Absolutely gorgeous looking game. I have to get used to the driving physics after playing so much Shift 2 and NASCAR 2011 over the summer. I wonder if any of my cars from Forza 3 will carry over to Forza 4.

IGN has just posted the Forza 4 Review (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/119/1198556p1.html)

Like the step up from FIFA 11 to FIFA 12, there's no going back to Forza 3 now. The changes and updates are too welcome and widespread. The improved visuals, the added cars on track, the wealth of new race types, the tweaked AI and closer racing, the ferocious sound and superior sense of speed, the even better livery editor, the lot. With Forza 4 Turn 10 has crafted a driving game like no other; it's hands-down this generation's premier racing simulator.

Overall: 9.5

It's worth mentioning that Forza 3 alumni will be rewarded with a bunch of gift cars immediately based on what driver level they reached in Forza 3 and what cars they had in their garage.

Yes!!!!!!!!!

I had forgotten how addicting this game can be...

I'll post some impressions tomorrow because I'm having too much fun racing tonight.

Let me start by saying that the graphics and lighting in this game are gorgeous. Not only do the cars look great, but the tracks and scenery look amazing too. I would have liked to have seen some more new tracks added (only 2 new locations have been added), but the fantasy, Swiss Alps track is an excellent addition. The other new track is the Top Gear Test Track.

The car handling is very realistic and you'll easily notice a difference between all the different cars. I'll probably set up my wheel over the weekend to see how well it works, but I doubt I'll be disappointed. The AI has definitely been greatly improved too. IGN made the following comment in their review and I couldn't agree more:

"Crucially, Turn 10 no longer removes power from AI cars to slow them down for players on the lower difficulty levels. Underpowered cars made it easier for less-skilled players to keep up but allowed them to blitz the hamstrung AI on straights. This time Turn 10 emulates lower level AI by giving them less confidence going into corners, so they brake sooner and carry less speed through them (like an actual novice driver would). The key to outfoxing lower level AI is outbraking them, because all AI levels will be pedal-to-the-metal in a straight line. Combined with an increase in the amount of cars on track this ultimately means more doorhandle-to-doorhandle racing and less lonely laps way out ahead of the pack."

The dynamic AI in the World Tour mode also adjust to how well you're doing. I'm finding my races to be more competitive and fun on the "Hard" difficulty level. When I lose, it doesn't feel like the CPU cheated to get the win, it's because I didn't run a good race. I've heard that the AI gets much tougher once you complete 5 championships, so I'll be curious to see how it goes once I get there (currently completed 2). I'll hopefully complete 5 tonight.

If anyone else picks up a copy, add me to your Rivals list so we can compare track times.

I'll have a copy on Friday, though it's going to take some creative accounting to free up the funds.  Expect I'll trade in FIFA, G1 Jockey and maybe F1, though we'll see.

I wasn't especially excited by this one until I played the demo, the stupidly addictive demo with the Rivals system, the one that ensures the ghost you're racing is always only very slightly quicker than you are and you can catch him up, can't you?  I would probably have bought it anyway, because I'm a) British and b) of the right age to understand how important one lap of the Top Gear circuit in a Kia Cee-Apostrophe-D can be.  How are you finding the Top Gear integration, mate?

It's not over the top, but well done. One of the hosts of the show does the Autovista commentary (which I haven't checked out yet), but I was surprised to see car soccer and car bowling, at the Top Gear track, included in the career mode. I wonder if Top Gear had any influence on the car handling in the game.

Forza Motorsport 4 Title Update Details -- 10/13/11

Hi everyone. Today we issued our first title update for Forza Motorsport 4. This update includes a number of fixes and back-end improvements we’ve made to the game. Here’s a partial list of what this update includes:

·         Various track visual upgrades

·         Various UI improvements

·         Fixed Rivals Track Day exploit where users can gain advantage by forcibly pitting AI cars

·         Fixed Drag leaderboard exploit that gave players time advantage by loading tuning file (To coincide with this fix, we will be wiping the drag leaderboards in the near future)

·         Fixed issue where importing a Forza 3 profile does not award credits to Xbox LIVE Silver members

·         Fixed issue where some livery editor layers were appearing as corrupted when importing from Forza 3

We continue to monitor for gameplay issues, and are investigating a number of these--including a few related to the 900-degree wheel--for a future title update. Please let us know if you run into any problems here on the forums or by e-mailing us at [email protected]. Thanks for playing and we’ll see you online!

I now have teh Froza4 for Rival-type activities.

Nice. I'll add you tonight.

Beat your time on Top Gear track with the Econo-Boxes. Took 3 or 4 laps in the Chevy to figure the proper line to race so the laps wouldn't be invalidated. Switched to the Ford and did it first try.

Haha. I finally checked out the Rivals feature after reading that you had Forza. I thought it was setup like Shift 2's Auto log where it kept track of yours and your friend's time for every track you've raced on.

Looks like I'm heading back to the Top Gear track tonight ;)

Back to you now. I beat your time with the Ford Ka. I like that you need to run clean laps for your times to count.

Any interest in a XGN car club? You can share garage cars and such.
I don't want to join one of the big ones at DSP or OS.

Ok, I set up the XGN Race Club and sent out some invites. You can only send invites to people that actually have the game though.

I've barely touched the career mode because I'm having so much fun tazzing around some of the Rivals sections.  Track Day At Le Mans and whatever name they've given to the Radical SR8 lap on the Nordschleife are sensational.

This is a wonderful, wonderful game.

I don't know.  I'm not much of a car game guy.  You playing it with your wheel?

It plays so well with a controller that I haven't even tried it with my wheel yet.

One of the guys I invited (J Cauthen) joined so far.

Adam, I sent you an invite, but I'm pretty sure you can only be in one club at a time.

I believe that's the case, mate, but I'll have a look and see if there's a way around it.  It puts your club's name into your leaderboard entries and uses your lap times to rank your club against every other club in the game, so I imagine there isn't, but it can't hurt to try.  I'm a Co-Leader of the DSP club, though I have absolutely no idea what that means or what rights it confers upon me...

If the owner of that GT is who I think it is, John Cauthen is a fine name to have attached to the XGN club.  Clean, courteous racer with a wealth of experience.

It let me put in the Oreca Viper, but not some of my other cars with updated designs and authentic liveries.
I hope there is a workaround for that.

I think the shared garage is a little buggy at the moment. I went into "Quick Play" and then the shared garage and none of the car images or specs showed up. I could flip through the garage and select a car without knowing what car it was, but once the race started the selected car showed up fine.

Yeah, I'd like to try a private race sometime...I'm a dirty racer though. I added some new cars to the club garage tonight as well.

Up to level 30 and gave in and finally bought the November Speed Pack. The December Speed Pack had only one car I was interested in (2010 Maserati Gran Turismo MC GT4) and I can buy that car on its own.

The cpu a.i. in world tour is kinda meh.

Downloaded the free Viper today and did some minor performance upgrades to it - I'll add it to the shared garage tonight. I also realized that I need to earn some more money in career mode since I'm down to just over 100k.

The netcode is smooth, the problem in public lobbies is getting wrecked out. Even if guys aren't trying to wreck you, they are usually such bad drivers you end up getting taken out.

I pre-ordered "Forza Horizon" from Amazon just to get the code for the Horizon-themed 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392. The code arrived about five minutes after placing my order and then I just canceled my pre-order. I'll probably buy the game anyway, but I was anxious to try out the new Dodge.
